On April 16, 2024, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research organized a meeting under the supervision of the Minister, Dr. Aram M. Qadir, to discuss educational matters and initiatives with a focus on the opportunities and resistance to the use of artificial intelligence in academic publications in Erbil at the International Hotel.

The meeting involved advisors of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, university presidents, scientific advisors, administrative officials, faculty members, and academic guests. With the participation of the Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies from the University of Zakho, the Director of the University Journals, and the Director of the Scientific Research Center.

The meeting was initiated by a speech from the organizing office, and in the Director General speech, Dr. Zhala S. Khatat discussed comprehensive directives and guidelines for academic development and scientific initiatives, emphasizing the importance of effectively implementing these strategies to advance research and academic excellence.

Furthermore, the Representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdulftah Abdulrazaq, stressed in his speech the importance of adapting to modern tools when publishing academic research and pointed out that the advent of artificial intelligence systems may lead to a change in the system of awarding higher education certificates in the future.

Overall, the meeting was divided into four panels that discussed the use of artificial intelligence tools in academic publications and the role of advanced universities and international journal publications in addressing and supporting the use of artificial intelligence in academic publications.
